SUMMARY:Museum Open House & Ribbon Cutting
DESCRIPTION:The Clinton County History Center is hosting a museum open house celebration ranging from free tours\, door prizes and refreshments to an informative onsite lecture and more. The event is Thursday\, May 27 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 149 E. Locust St. \nWilmington College Intern Mikaela Prescott will present a lecture onsite from 6-6:30 p.m. that evening to discuss her process of developing the new Native American heritage exhibit and experience she gained while interning. \nAn exhibit reopening ribbon-cutting in partnership with the Wilmington-Clinton County Chamber of Commerce is set for 5:30 p.m. \nMasks and social distancing indoors are requested. The Center’s gift shop will be open to visit and all current members receive a 10% discount. \nAbout the exhibit\nWC graduating history major Mikaela Prescott worked alongside the staff of the History Center to develop an exhibit featuring significant events and stories that occurred on these lands well before settlers arrived. Native American tribes such as the Hopewell\, Adena\, and Fort Ancient people called the lands that we know as Clinton County home. \nIncluded in the new Native American heritage exhibit are a variety of arrowheads\, tools and fossils\, as well as a mammoth tusk that’s over 10\,000 years old and photographs of indigenous Western tribes taken by Clinton County native Karl Moon in the early 1900s. \nThe facility\nThe Clinton County History Center is at a historic structure once belonging to General James W. Denver and his wife\, Louise Rombach Denver; it is home to both the Genealogical Society and Historical Society’s museum. \nThe museum contains two full floors of touring rooms featuring the history of the Clinton County region and its people. \nAs a 501(c)3 non-profit\, the Center relies on memberships\, donations\, and community events to continue their mission of encouraging community involvement in the preservation\, education\, and promotion of Clinton County history and genealogy. \nTo stay up-to-date on all things local history\, visit www.ClintonCountyHistory.org and follow them on social media and YouTube @ClintonCountyHistory

SUMMARY:Nancy Green as Aunt Jemima - The Pancake Queen (Black History Month Event)
DESCRIPTION:“Aunt Jemima” was one of the first American brand identities. Her face is instantly recognized around the world as the embodiment of hospitality and a tasty breakfast. Her real name was Nancy Green\, and aside from being the first Aunt Jemima\, she was a real Kentucky hero: a community activist\, philanthropist\, and church missionary. Originally born into slavery in Montgomery\, Kentucky\, in 1834\, Nancy Green became an icon. \nActress Debra Faulk of Kentucky Humanities brings her one-woman show portraying Nancy Green\, to Wilmington as the community celebrates the rich heritage and contributions of African-Americans to the life and culture of our nation. Come enjoy this unique presentation on the influence of an American icon and how this former slave made a huge impact for good. Debra Faulk will portray Nancy Green on stage Tuesday\, February 27 at the Murphy Theater in Wilmington. \nEvent is FREE and open to the public. Visit TheMurphyTheatre.org for more information.

SUMMARY:Museum Day 2019
DESCRIPTION:The Clinton Co. Historical Society is participating in Museum Day 2019. Join us September 21\, 2019 for FREE entry into historic Rombach Place. Donations are always welcome. Thanks\, Bob will also be shown on September 21\, 2019 at the Clinton County History Center. Brooke Beam will discuss what it took to make the film a reality from 10:00-10:30 AM with a showing of the short film following. Event is FREE and open to the public. \nThanks\, Bob provides a glimpse into past through Bob Cotner’s home videos from the early 1950s. Cotner\, a Wilmington resident and owner of the Hale & Cotner Rexall Pharmacy\, used his 16 MM camera to record family gatherings\, an aerial tour of Clinton County\, and scenes from the Wilmington Sesquicentennial. Cotner’s great-granddaughter\, Brooke Beam\, has digitized Cotner’s films and compares the vintage film to the modern scenes of the county in 2019. \n-What is Museum Day? \nMuseum Day is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. The Museum Day ticket provides free admission for two people on Saturday\, September 21\, 2019
