SUMMARY:Celebrating Clinton County 2022 - Township Talks: Clark\, Green\, Jefferson\, and Washington Twps.
DESCRIPTION:You may know that Clinton County was formed in 1810 and the community is two hundred and twelve years old this year. But\, ask yourself\, how much do you know about the township in which you live?  \nThe Clinton County Genealogical and Historical Societies is placing a spotlight on the community’s townships during “Township Talks”\, a special research event hosted once a month from 10am-2pm during June to September with select townships featured monthly.  \n During these five Saturdays of the summer season\, the Societies will be opening their doors and providing you with all the materials you need to learn about Clinton County as a whole! These “Township Talks” will be open to both members and non-members at no cost. The Societies ask for a donation if you find your visit well worth your while – which they are confident you will.  \nSaturday\, June 25 – Clark\, Green\, Jefferson\, and Washington Twps. \nSaturday\, July 30 – Liberty\, Richland\, Wayne\, and Wilson Twps. \nSaturday\, August 27 – Adams\, Chester\, Marion\, and Vernon Twps.  \nSaturday\, September 24 – Union Twp. / City of Wilmington \nFamily tree forms\, research charts\, and Celebrating Clinton County pencils will be given by the Genealogical Society.  For kiddos who visit\, Clinton County coloring sheets and crayons will be given to children age 7 and under. A short museum scavenger hunt will be offered by the Historical Society throughout the featured day. \nBoth organizational missions include the preservation of Clinton Co.’s history and genealogy. The Genealogical & Historical Societies rely on memberships and donations to operate. To learn more\, please visit www.ClintonCountyHistory.org and save the upcoming dates on your calendar! \nFor those who visit during a “Township Talks” event\, their name will be entered into a drawing for a variety of fun prizes. The township with the most participation will receive a free copy of the “Census of 1860 for Clinton County” book on behalf of the Societies. \nShare your knowledge of Clinton County’s townships too by submitting your research or facts to info@ClintonCountyHistory.org. If selected\, they will be added to research files for future use and you could win a prize.

Locust St. \nWilmington College Intern Mikaela Prescott will present a lecture onsite from 6-6:30 p.m. that evening to discuss her process of developing the new Native American heritage exhibit and experience she gained while interning. \nAn exhibit reopening ribbon-cutting in partnership with the Wilmington-Clinton County Chamber of Commerce is set for 5:30 p.m. \nMasks and social distancing indoors are requested. Native American tribes such as the Hopewell\, Adena\, and Fort Ancient people called the lands that we know as Clinton County home. \nIncluded in the new Native American heritage exhibit are a variety of arrowheads\, tools and fossils\, as well as a mammoth tusk that’s over 10\,000 years old and photographs of indigenous Western tribes taken by Clinton County native Karl Moon in the early 1900s. \nThe facility\nThe Clinton County History Center is at a historic structure once belonging to General James W. Denver and his wife\, Louise Rombach Denver; it is home to both the Genealogical Society and Historical Society’s museum. \nThe museum contains two full floors of touring rooms featuring the history of the Clinton County region and its people. \nAs a 501(c)3 non-profit\, the Center relies on memberships\, donations\, and community events to continue their mission of encouraging community involvement in the preservation\, education\, and promotion of Clinton County history and genealogy. \nTo stay up-to-date on all things local history\, visit www.ClintonCountyHistory.org and follow them on social media and YouTube @ClintonCountyHistory
